Let Your Accessories Do The Talking

It is no secret that fashion is one of the highest forms of self-expression. How you dress speaks volumes about who and how you are unless, someone picks out your wardrobe for you then that speaks on how they see you but that’s a different matter.

--

Whether you like dresses or skirts, shirts or t-shirts, how you dress tends to define you. When you dress you add extra items that heighten the effect of your clothing and pronounce your fashion accent. These items are called accessories. By definition a fashion accessory is an item used to contribute, in a secondary manner, to the wearer's outfit, often used to complete an outfit and chosen to specifically complement the wearer's look. By this definition, it is easy to see that we all accessorize but the degrees to which we do it differ. For women, a standard accessory is a handbag and most gentlemen always don a watch. This is not to say a lady with a handbag isn’t a lady or a man not wearing a watch leaves more to be desired. Accessories are as different and varied as their wearers and so, some pick the usual and others tend to wade in the waters of the unique. As a trendy person with a variety of likes your accessories can help tell your story before you even utter a word. There are two recognized types of accessories. Worn accessories and carried accessories. Here are a few ideas on how to let your accessories do your talking for you:

Worn Accessories

In this category we find jewellery which consists of necklaces, watches, neck chains, brooches, lapel pins, rings, bracelets, earrings and studs, stylish hair pins and many more. These days, brands have jewellery made for fans and supporters. If you are a Chelsea supporter you can wear a Chelsea bracelet or band to show your allegiance to your team. Even cultures have jewellery, the most evident being that of the Rastafarian with their trademark red, yellow and green colours. Earrings, bangles and necklaces have been fashioned for those who are a part of the culture and those who support or respect it. Africa neck pieces, earrings and bracelets are also in existence. If you like something then there is probably jewellery you can wear to show your affiliation. Other worn accessories include jackets, boots and shoes, cravats, ties, hats, bonnets, belts and suspenders, gloves, muffs, sashes, shawls, scarves, lanyards, socks, and stockings. These worn accessories can either communicate your likes through their branding or their nature. Brands also make wearable accessories such as these. Colour coordination plays a part in the choosing of accessories to be worn unless colour blocking is the intention so choose your colours wisely according to your outfit.

Carried Acceessories

Traditional carried accessories include purses and handbags, eyewear, hand fans, parasols and umbrellas, wallets, and canes. Carried accessories tend to be associated with formality and pristine civility. They communicate a certain elegance and have an alluring appeal that subtly says, “I know my worth.” That is the reason women tend to be very fussy when it comes to their handbags and purses. They know that they speak for them. Carried accessories should either match with the outfit or come in the outfit friendly colours of dark shades of brown and grey or black. Eyewear is different because although it is used to protect the eyes from ultraviolet sunlight rays it is also used to make a fashion statement. There are various types of sunglasses so find the type that suits you and look your best. The advantage of accessorizing is that it allows people to get an idea of who you just by looking at you. If someone shares the same interests as you and they see an accessory that points to that they will spark up a conversation so, accessorize and mesmerize.
